SMILE – Generative Music Synth
This is an old project I made for university with some colleagues. It’s made in Max/MSP and it uses a simple generative algorithm to drive notes to 5 sound generators using FM synthesis. It can become addictive!
UPDATE: now available for free download! Try it here!

The project will not be improved further. But I’m asking my colleagues if they agree on making the app and the Max/MSP source available under Creative Commons. Keep an eye on the blog!

YES* thank you a lot for making it possible to try this colourful litle machine.. it is really fun to play with it and let it play.. i still did not get really the point of it, but it makes sounds and reacts here and there to my inputs.. an adventure.. – i use the Max/MSP-runtime to play it.. i don’t know much about it sorrily.. – i can’t make changes to midi-setup and either can’t store patterns as presets.. is that because i use only the runtime?
anyway: great piece of work, i will play further..
best greetings

unfortunatly you can’t add midi to smile with the runtime, and you can’t save patches ( our fault, it was just a prototype… ). if you got max you can make these changes yourself, and share the final product as you like, too! ( in the terms of the GPL license obviously ). glad you like and use it :]
